They were already in the lead after the dressage with 23.3 penalty points. With only 1.2 time penalties, they delivered one of the fastest cross-country rides and the resulting 24.5 minus points brought them safely to the finish in the course. They won the test with a lead of more than ten points. This was the second CCI3* appearance for the pair this year and their second victory.
Lara de Liederkerke-Meier and her eight-year-old Selle Français mare Chanelle Qc Z (by Catoki) took second place in Belgium. Here, 6.8 time faults were added to the dressage result of 29.9 penalty points in the cross-country and that was the score. As a result, they worked their way up from fifth place after the dressage to third place in the cross-country, finishing behind Böckmann.
Thanks to Bo Goeman and Coco Fleur Nc Z, third place also went to Belgium (38.6). Nadine Marzahl and the nine-year-old Hanoverian Valentino daughter Viva l’Amour were delighted with fourth place (40.5).
Strong second place for Schäfer-Gehrau
The highlight of the weekend in Oudkarspel was the CCI4*-S. Here, US rider Hallie Coon on the eleven-year-old KWPN gelding Kapriccio by Dexter R was the only starter to bring her dressage score of 31 minus points to the finish line. That was enough for victory.
Second place went to Germany, to the rider with the horse with the most fitting name imaginable: Very Special with Brandon Schäfer-Gehrau in the saddle. The eleven-year-old Hanoverian Viscount daughter is definitely special, as she has often carried her rider into the placings and also to the Tête in four-star competitions. In Oudkarspel, they started the rest of the competition from third place after the dressage with 29.1 penalty points. Unfortunately, they also had a knockdown in the course. As a result, they temporarily dropped back to tenth place. But with a super cross-country time, which only earned them 1.2 time penalty points, they fought their way back up to finish second with 34.3 minus points.
Third place with 35.9 minus points went to a highly experienced pair, Great Britain’s Kirsty Chabert and her now 17-year-old Calvaro F.C. daughter Classic VI. The pair were second in Luhmühlen in 2022, have finished Badminton and Kentucky and were already victorious with the British team at the CHIO Aachen.
Ingrid Klimke was also among the winners with her promising youngster Kallista. The riding champion has been showing the ten-year-old half-blood mare by Chatman out of a thoroughbred dam since last year. They have already placed well up to CCI3*. In her first four-star competition, she fell in the cross-country, but on a clear track, not at the obstacle. Today was their first four-star placing with a promising dressage score (70.210, 29.8 penalty points), one knockdown on the course and a cross-country round with no faults, only 12.8 time faults.
