The first breeding licenses were awarded at the Danish stallion licensing, not only for the older dressage stallions but also for the jumping talents aged five and over. And one in particular was singled out.

Seven five-year-old and two six-year-old stallions presented themselves to the licensing committee in Herning under the rider and on the course. Jumping with their own rider was first on the program. The stallions were then unsaddled and presented in hand. They were judged by Signe Wiese, Allan Blomgren, Bo K. Møller and Johnny Hansen.

Signe Wiese explained that their decision was not only based on the impression the stallions had made during the past few days in Herning, but also on the fact that the Danish licensing system allows them to follow the stallions over several years. In fact, both the dressage and show jumping stallions are initially approved for breeding for a limited period of three years, after which they take their performance test and then face the judges again in the following years. Signe Wiese: “Among other things, this means that even if a stallion has a bad day here in Herning, for example, we can get a clear overall picture of his qualities from the many visits.”

Historic moment

In contrast to the dressage camp, where only one Danish stallion was eligible for a breeder’s medal, seven youngsters and their “creators” were honored among the older show jumping stallions. Four received a bronze breeder’s medal, two a silver medal and finally – for only the second time in the history of the Danish Warmblood – a gold medal was also awarded.

This went to the five-year-old Jupiter DWB by Jewel Ask Z-Clearwater, winner of his performance test. He was also named Champion Stallion. Licensing inspector Signe Wiese: “He is a stallion of excellent type. He has a beautiful body harmony and an impressive masculine charisma. He jumps with enormous ability and a lot of power in the take-off, with very correct technique and fast reactions.”

According to Signe Wiese, Jupiter DWB is a good example of why the Danish system works. He says: “When we first saw the stallion as a three-year-old in 2024, we had no doubt about his jumping ability right from the start. However, we had great doubts as to whether he had the necessary prerequisites to become not only a good show jumper, but also a good jumping stallion. He was not yet fully mature, he lacked stallion expression, but he jumped so convincingly that we decided to give him the chance to prove himself.” He obviously did.
