This weekend in Herning, Denmark, the traditional licensing weekend is on the program, flanked by top-class sport in dressage and show jumping. The first highlight from a breeding perspective was the licensing of the older stallions, where several youngsters who are well known in Germany were able to stand out.

The first licensing judgments were handed out for the four-year-old and older dressage stallions, for whom the final breeding license for Denmark is at stake. 18 stallions were assessed both under saddle and in hand. Only one candidate was not licensed.

The judging committee with Vicky Nortvig, Jane Nielsen, Johnny Sørensen and Rune Willum Hansen named the four-year-old Hanoverian Daan G. by Donkey Boss-Don Olymbrio-Don Schufro from the successful Danish breeding of Helene Geervliet as the winning stallion.

The strong-moving chestnut was a premium stallion at the Hanoverian licensing in 2024 and then moved to Helgstrand Dressage for an official two million euros. He was the Hanoverian Vice Champion last year, but was able to leave his conqueror there, DC-10, behind in the obligatory 35-day test for the Danish stallions with 912 points. And this time too, the evaluation committee placed him at the top of the field.

As Vicky Nortvig explained the judging committee’s decision: “There were several worthy contenders for the top spot, but we opted for the stallion who passed the best test.”

Incidentally, Daan G. is not related to the other famous horse bred by Helene Geervliet, the three-time world champion Quinn G. Daan G. comes from the Hanoverian mare line of Jadeluft. Quinn G., on the other hand, goes back to a thoroughbred line.

Only Danish registered stallion

It is common for foreign stallions to make up a large part of the lot. That is why the best stallion registered as a Danish Warmblood receives an extra award, the Åge Ravns Challenge Cup. It was not difficult for the jury to choose this year’s winner, as there was only one contender: Invictus IWE by Iron. He was only shown in hand and could not be presented under saddle because he had suffered a slight injury. However, as he had passed a very good 35-day test, his breeder Iben W. Deleuran was nevertheless awarded the Åge Ravns Challenge Cup.
