In the first few weeks of the year, the Hanoverian Verband has already issued breeding licenses to 45 stallions, including several celebrities.

These celebrities included not only three champion stallions, but also a top athlete: Limonchello NT. The now 19-year-old Westphalian by Lord Caletto-Calido-Calypso II (breeder: Peter Nagel-Tornau) once carried Christian Kukuk through his first really big courses, then moved to Poland and was most recently the trainer for a Czech U25 rider. Now he has found a new home in Ammerland at Gestüt Stiekema, from where he has also been able to delight Hanoverian mares since his approval on February 7.

Holstein champion stallion for Hanover

Earlier, on January 28, the licensing commission had already granted the breeding license to the champion stallion of the 2024 Holsteiner licensing, the now four-year-old Conchezz by Colestus-Caretino-Silvester. The typey gray stallion bred by Sören von Rönne moved to Chinese ownership after his licensing, but remained under the care of the Holsteiner Verband, which also presented him in Verden.

This also applies to the Comme il faut-Monte Bellini son Cognac, whose granddam is none other than Marcus Ehning’s World Cup winner Sabrina. Her owner Judith Gölkel is the breeder of the four-year-old.

Oldenburg Champion Stallion for Hanover

The Bonds-Diamond Hit-Florencio son Barnsley was the first champion stallion of the past licensing season when he was awarded the sash of the best of the year by the Oldenburg Verband. The representative of the Bolero line was bred by Scherbring GbR in Visbek. After the licensing, Barnsley was sold at auction for 360,000 euros to the Swedish stud Lövsta, which has stationed him at the Lodbergen Dressage Horse Performance Center for at least this season.

Incidentally, the exhibitor at the licensing in Vechta was Anne Haase, who discovered Barnsley as a foal and was also the one who presented his sire Bonds in Vechta in 2015. Bonds was also a champion stallion back then and went on to make a name for himself as a sire. Good omens for Barnsley.

A Trakehner for Hanover

In 2024, Havertz was the undisputed champion of the Trakehner Stallion Days in Neumünster. Michaela Böhn had bred Blanc Pain, who himself was successful up to advanced (S) level, to her Millennium K2 daughter Happy Millennia. After being named champion stallion, the result moved to Sprehe Stud for 420,000 euros, where he has been working ever since. Havertz has now also been recognized for Hanoverian breeding. The fact that Hasta’s Trakehner dam line is well suited to other breeding areas has been proven by the licensed Sir Skyfall by Sandro Hit – successful up to advanced (S**) level – and Shiraz by Sir Donnerhall, among others.
