Highway TN from Willem Greve to Lillie Keenan

As Team Nijhof reports, national coach Wout-Jan van der Schans sees Highway TN less in the Oranje team than Greve’s other two top horses, Grandorado TN and Pretty Woman van’t Paradijs.
“I understand that,” says Henk Nijhof. “Not all horses are made for three days in Aachen, and in terms of ability, Grandorado and Pretty Woman simply have a bit more to offer.”
For the same reason, the N.O.P., the foundation that keeps potential Dutch Olympic horses, decided to replace Highway TN with Pretty Woman, because keeping three horses for one rider was too much. A luxury problem then. “We understand that,” emphasized Nijhof once again.
It was then that he crossed paths with Lillie Keenan. A good relationship already existed with her through the sale of Opium JW van de Moerhoeve a few years ago. So they thought about it briefly and finally reached an agreement.
Highway TN is leased
The stallion has not been sold, but will be leased to Lillie Keenan for 2026, with an option to extend for 2027. “He will be ridden by a top rider who is in the top 30 (of the world rankings). He doesn’t have to be number one, he is well looked after and can return to breeding immediately after the lease expires. Actually, it couldn’t be much better if the team finds two other horses that are better suited for Aachen,” said Team Nijhof.
Already arrived in the USA
Highway TN has already arrived in the USA and has already completed quarantine. He is in Wellington, where the Winter Equestrian Festival is currently taking place. The fact that everything happened so quickly was not easy, especially for his long-time rider, Willem Greve.
“That says a lot about him as a rider and horseman,” says Henk Nijhof. “And it’s all too understandable. Highway gave everything for him, and horses like this naturally have a great influence on a rider. We are enormously grateful to Willem Greve and his groom Richard Skillen for the exceptional performances they have achieved with Highway.”
Willem Greve makes no secret of the fact that he is not too happy about the development: “It’s also a big loss in sporting terms. I made my dreams come true with Highway. I think he is my most successful horse. He went through fire for me. We were a team and he has a very special place in my heart. I hope he can now show what he is capable of on the other side of the world. Fortunately, he’s going to a rider who will make that possible for him.”
The rider in question is naturally delighted with her new addition, who she will soon be showing at his first competitions. “I feel honored to be able to ride such a special stallion and hope that I can write a new beautiful chapter in Highway TN’s life. It’s a great privilege and I hope I can make his owners proud.”
