Winning start to the year for Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann
Before heading to Arabia, Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and My Lady Lavista were placed in Frankfurt. Photo: Lafrentz As has been customary for some years now, a large proportion of European show jumpers spend the winter in areas of the world where it is warmer than here. Some travel to the USA to spend the winter in Florida. Others are drawn to the Arabian desert. The latter include Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann and Philipp Weishaupt, who are both competing at the CSI4* in Doha this weekend. Meyer-Zimmermann’s preliminary results for 2026: second day of the year, two ribbons in the bag.
Riding the twelve-year-old Holstein mare My Lady Lavista, Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann won the tournament’s opening jumping competition over 1.40 meters with two phases.
A small surprise was the second place of Rashid Towaim Ali Al Marri from Qatar in second place. He was in the saddle on the Belgian mare Navaronne. Third place went to the Italian Roberto Previtali on Qashquai SB.
If the ribbon wasn’t enough, Janne Meyer also came sixth with the eleven-year-old Livello daughter High Level.
She left Harry Charles (GBR) on Fighting Phil (10th place) and Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) in the saddle on Caetlin vd Heffinck Z (11th place) behind her.
Charles also had one of his top horses at the start with Casquo Blue, was zero, but took his time and used the jumping as a warm-up. The same applied to Philipp Weishaupt on the Kannan son Oreo D.R. and with Chaquitos PS.
The latter, a 13-year-old Chacco-Blue son owned by the Argentinean José María Larocca, is new to Weishaupt. The owner himself previously had the 13-year-old OS gelding under saddle, while Philip Rüping brought him into the sport.
Janne Meyer and the grey mare My Lady Lavista have also not been competing together for very long. The Mylord Carthago daughter is owned by the US and previously competed with Conor Swail under the Irish flag, including in Nations Cups. Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann presented her for the first time at the beginning of October. This was the pair’s first victory.
And speaking of Holsteiner horses, Torben Köhlbrandt and Mastermind ML are another North German duo in Al Shaqab. They were also clear, but not in the money.
